Responsible Business
Communities
We are playing a positive role in the communities where we work. Our colleagues are volunteering and providing donations to our flagship charity partners, fundraising for causes close their hearts through our Give Together programme, and passing on their expertise to schools and community groups.
UK Flagship Charity
Our flagship charity partner for 2017 and 2018 is Alzheimer’s society, the UK’s leading dementia charity which provides over 3,000 local support services for people affected by the condition.
We will be supporting Alzheimer’s Society’s Side by Side initiative, which offers free, one-to-one support for people with dementia, helping them to continue doing the things they love.
Teach First
Bank of Ireland UK partnered with Teach First, one of the UK’s leading educational charities to develop and grow the next generation of inspirational leaders in schools. In 2016 we supported Teach First through:
- The Teach First Coaching programme – five Bank of Ireland UK employees enrolled and were matched with teachers. Over the year programme, teachers benefit from the support of an inspiring leader in our business
- Ongoing supper – we have hosted a number of events and meetings for Teach First in our Bristol and London offices. Most notably, we have already hosted two training and matching events for coaches in Bristol
- Careers workshops – Four colleagues have volunteered at Summer Hill Primary school. The event introduced the careers landscape to Year 6 students, prompting them to think about they’d like to be, and more crucially how they’d like to get there
Merchants Academy
Bank of Ireland UK has worked with Bristol secondary school, Merchants’ Academy, since 2008, providing its students with vital experience from the world of work.
Since 2015, over 300 children visited our Temple Quay offices and several colleagues have supported Merchants’ Academy’s `Future You’ afternoon. Students have also undertaken valuable work experience.
Open Farm Weekend
Bank of Ireland UK has supported Open Farm Weekend, an annual showcase event for Northern Ireland farming industry, farmers and the food industry since 2012. In June 2016, 23 farms took part in Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend, promoting the local agri-food sector to a non-farming audience, educating the public on the realities of farming and food production and raising awareness of the importance of the local supply chain.
