Chief Executive Officer

Desmond Crowley

Appointed Director of BOI (UK) plc in September 2009.  Appointed CEO of BOI (UK) plc in March 2012.  Joined BOI Group in 1988.  In March 2000, became a member of the Group Executive Committee, on being appointed Chief Executive of Retail Banking Ireland. Appointed Chief Executive of UK Financial Services, Director of Bristol & West plc and BOI UK Holdings plc in January 2006.  Appointed Director of the Parent in October 2006, until his retirement from this position in June 2011.  Appointed as Chief Executive Officer – Retail (Ireland & UK) in May 2009 and Chief Executive - Retail UK Division in March 2012.

Previously Chairman of Post Office Financial Services.  A Director of First Rate Exchange Services, the foreign exchange joint venture with UK Post Office.  He is also a Director of New Ireland Assurance Company plc.

Chief Financial Officer

Thomas McAreavey

Thomas was appointed Chief Financial Officer in March 2017. He has  over 15 years experience in the Bank of Ireland Group, having held various senior management positions within Finance, including leading a range of strategic projects for BOI. Prior to that he held a management position within Pricewaterhouse Coopers. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant.

Thomas is also a director of a number of BOI Group subsidiaries.

Chief Risk Officer

Neil Fuller

Neil was appointed Director of Bank of Ireland (UK) plc & Chief Risk Officer in October 2015. He joined Bank of Ireland from GE Capital UK, where he held the role of Chief Risk Officer since 2011. Neil has over 30 years of financial services experience, having previously worked for Royal Bank of Scotland, where he held the role of Chief Risk Officer, UK Retail Division, and having previously held a number of senior management roles in UK Retail Banking across Credit Risk, Enterprise & Operational Risk and Operations.

Prior to that, Neil worked for NatWest Bank in a number of branch and regional management roles.

Chief Operating Officer

John Tudor

As Chief Operating Officer for Retail UK, John Tudor is responsible for leading a co-ordinated approach across a number of critical areas for the UK Division, including business strategy planning and execution, business development, customer advocacy, and change management programmes.   He also has accountability for managing the Bank’s Joint Venture Agreements with the UK Post Office, various outsourcing contracts, as well as responsibility for driving profitability of the extensive UK Post Office and BOI NI ATM network.

John joined Bank of Ireland Group in 1998 and has worked in a variety of Finance, Strategy and Operational roles within the UK business, including working extensively with the Banks JV with UK Post Office. He was appointed as Chief Operating Officer in April 2014.  Before joining Bank of Ireland, John worked as a Chartered Accountant with Moore Stephens (Bath) having qualified with BDO Binder Hamlyn (Manchester). John is a graduate of Manchester University and is a Member of the ICAEW.

Director of Consumer Banking

Mike Joyce

Mike joined Bank of Ireland in 1997 from Bristol and West and he has spent the last 17 years in a variety of Senior Management roles within the Bank.  After a variety of finance roles Mike was appointed as the Finance Director for the Personal Lending Businesses in the UK in 2001.  In 2005 Mike was appointed as the Managing Director of Bank of Ireland Mortgages based in Reading and took on all responsibility for the consolidated Mortgage business in 2009.  In October 2012 Mike was appointed as Director of Consumer Banking for the retail UK division.

Mike sits on the Council of Mortgage Lenders Executive Committee and is a member of the British Bankers Association Retail Committee.

Managing Director Post Office Businesses

Gordon Gourlay

Gordon was appointed MD PO Businesses in March 2014.  He also holds the position of CEO of First Rate Exchange Services and PO Insurances.  He joined Bank of Ireland in 2004 as Strategy and Marketing Director for Post Office Financial Services and was appointed Managing Director of First Rate Exchange Services in 2007.  In 2009 he was appointed Managing Director, FRES and Retail Products and accepted the role of Managing Director of General Insurance Business in addition to existing responsibilities in 2012.

Prior to Bank of Ireland, Gordon had 25 years Retail Banking experience with Bank of Scotland/HBoS and then RBS.  Within HBoS, Gordon held a number of senior appointments in Direct Banking, Credit Cards, Retail Marketing and Branch Distribution Strategy.  On creation of HBoS Gordon was appointed Head of Remote Banking, reporting directly to the CEO before leaving to join RBS/Nat West as Director of Channel Delivery - Retail Banking, overseeing the customer proposition for E-Commerce, Telephony and ATM business.

Gordon has been working at Executive Level for the last 16 years, also serving on various Industry Boards including MasterCard, Visa, LINK.

Managing Director of NI and Business Banking GB

Adrian Olsen

Adrian was appointed as Head of Business Banking Great Britain in June 2012 and added the Head of NI Franchise to his remit in April 2014.  He joined the Group in May 2000 as Head of Global Project Finance, having spent the previous 16 years specialising in Project Finance in various Investment Banks in London.  Adrian’s early career was spent in the Retail Division of Midland Bank.

Adrian is also a member of BOIUK Plc’s Executive Committee, reporting into the Chief Executive of the Retail Division.

Managing Director AA Business

Damien Daly

Damien was appointed Managing Director, AA Business in July 2015 with overall Bank responsibility for the AA partnership business. He joined the Bank of Ireland Group in 2005 and has held a number of senior appointments across the Group including Head of Strategy and Marketing, Global Markets (Capital Markets Division); Group Head of Customer Deposits, Group Treasury with responsibility for overall Group pricing and balance sheet management and Director of Marketing and Customer Analytics, Retail Ireland Division.

Prior to joining Bank of Ireland Damien held a number of management and business development roles at Eircom, the national telecoms carrier in Ireland. Damien started his career with the Lafferty Group, the specialist financial publisher, in the area of direct response marketing.
 
Qualifications:  MSc Business Administration, Trinity College Dublin.

HR Director

Amy Burke

Amy was appointed Retail UK HR Director in August 2012, with responsibility for HR, Culture, Customer & Brand and Communications .  She has over 20 years’ experience in the Group, and has held a number of senior appointments in Ireland and internationally, including HR Director for Corporate & Treasury Division and Group Manufacturing and Head of HR & Training for Bristol & West.  Prior to that, Amy held Senior Management roles in Business Banking, the Retail Transformation Programme and Strategic HR.

Amy is a member of BOI UK plc’s Executive Committee.

Qualifications: BSc Finance, University College Cork, and studied at IMD Lausanne and The Ross Business School, University of Michigan.
