Action Cancer, in association with Bank of Ireland UK and BDO, is organising a unique celebratory business event for women, with the theme of growth and innovation.  The luncheon event will bring together three key high profile speakers at the luxurious Merchant Hotel on 17 October 2013, to mark the charity’s 40th year.

Personal stylist Beth Goodrham, bestselling author Rachel Abbott and Northern Irish business woman Christine Boyle will speak about their personal development, career reinvigoration and business innovation.

Additionally, the event will be attended by local celebrities and high profile Northern Irish contacts who will host each table, including Stephen Watson and Alexandra Ford.

Maria McAllister of Bank of Ireland UK said, ““Working closely with local business women we experience firsthand the important role they play not only in business, but as key influencers in our local communities. We are delighted to play our part in supporting Actions Cancer’s 40th year celebratory event, which is a platform to voice and profile an important message through business women in Northern Ireland.”
Beth Goodrham, has worked with hundreds of women and formed partnerships with brands including Marks & Spencer, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Boden, Hobbs, Benetton, Jigsaw, Mint Velvet, Ella by Viyella and LK Bennett.  As well as styling the nation, Beth also runs a daily blog, Style Guile, which was recently short-listed by Marie Claire Magazine for its fashion blog of the year award.

Rachel Abott will speak about her experience of self publishing a number one novel, ‘Only the Innocent’ which remained number one for four weeks in the UK Kindle chart, and was second highest selling ebook on Waterstones, beaten only by 50 Shades of Grey.  Having been translated into no less than 8 different languages, to date the book has sold over 180,000 copies in the UK plus a further 50,000 in the US.  Hot on the heels of this success, Rachel’s second novel, ‘The Back Road’, sold 80,000 copies in the first ten weeks.

Christine Boyle, Managing Director of Lawell Asphalt Company in Belfast, had her comfort zone shaken, when, after a career-break, she took over the family business.   Christine believes whilst it wasn’t planned, her journey into business has been enormously helpful for, 'dealing with situations and major crises', and she believes that sole responsibility is good for development, building confidence and facing fears.

Showcasing the impact of Action Cancer’s unique breast screening service, all attendees will be encouraged to become champions of female cancer prevention for their own health and well being and for colleagues, families and friends.   This key event is a unique networking opportunity for business women to come together and reinforce the importance finding a suitable work/life balance to assist in disease prevention.

Laura Jackson of BDO said, ““Involvement in our local community is exceptionally important to BDO Northern Ireland. We aim to make a real difference to our business community and look forward to this unique event to support Action Cancer in its 40th year.”
Sue Wilton, Board Member of the Roe Park Resort, Limavady has also taken an active role in the co-ordination of this anniversary milestone for Action Cancer. To assist with fundraising, Mrs Wilton has donated several sponsored short breaks at the Roe Park Resort which will be auctioned at the event for further fundraising.   ‘On behalf of the Roe Park, I am delighted to be involved in such a unique celebration for Action Cancer and delighted with the support and enthusiasm we have received from fellow business woman to participate’ said Sue.
Action Cancer is the only charity that provides breast screening for women aged 40-49 and 70 and over, and last year’s screened over 8,000 women.  For every 1000 women screened, an average of 6 breast cancers are detected which could be life-saving through early detection.  The service is entirely free and the charity must raise £80 per screening provided.
